Building a B2B Content Engine: A Guide to CEO Content on LinkedIn

Founders who post at least 10x a year generate 33% more leads than founders who don't post at all.

I was recently out in San Francisco, sat in a room with the LinkedIn team, going through their latest research when that statistic came up.

It's something we see over and over with our own clients: that CEO and executive touchpoint carries real credibility, because of the CEO or C-suite title attached to it. And drives real commercial outcomes when done right.

The question is: why aren't more companies leveraging the credibility already within their own leadership teams?

Most companies default to posting from their brand page, and wonder why it doesn't drive impact or results.

Here’s the difference:

Brand Accounts - Limited content topics

  • Product updates
  • Company milestones
  • The occasional announcement

CEO Profile - The aperture of what you can talk about opens up

  • Tapping into wider industry conversations
  • Share your growth journey
  • Your business philosophies
  • Conversations with customers
  • Your vision for the business

The LinkedIn algorithm drives 10x reach on personal content over company pages. And we all know people like to buy from people.

Take one of our clients, a founder running a £100M/year industry-leading agency.

The content we posted from his own profile organically drew 310,000 impressions in the first 3 months, and engagement from dream ICP-fit VP-level contacts at Nike, Mars, L'Occitane, Estée Lauder, Arsenal and more.

A brand page talking about product updates was never going to drive that impact.

How to get CEO buy-in

Great CEO content only happens when they're invested. Buy-in isn't a formality here. It's what determines whether content goes out with real input behind it, or if reviews stall and the whole thing turns into a bottleneck.

From our experience working with 70+ B2B leaders, these 3 things make the biggest difference:

  1. ‍Clarity first. Walk through exactly what the process looks like, expected results and what is required from them, before anything begins.
  2. Time. Make sure your process is streamlined to create maximum impact from just a few hours of your CEO each month. 2-3 hours a month is an easier ask than them writing daily.
  3. Tie it to something they care about. Opening doors with enterprise buyers. Shortening the sales cycle. Making hiring easier because candidates already know who they'd be working for. A CEO who can see exactly how this moves their own goals forward will engage with it properly.

How to find your CEO's voice and topics

Your CEO already has the ideas.

They're sitting in sales calls, customer meetings, interviewing, at conferences. It just isn't captured. Leverage these resources: ask them to record a one-minute voice note on the way back from an event, or a few bullet points of insights right after a big pitch.

Your content has to feature your CEO's real lived experience. Their stories, their POV.

LinkedIn’s algorithm favours content that clearly comes from a real person, not something generic. That's also what makes it memorable and impossible to copy. Recycle the same five surface-level tips everyone else posts and you won't stand out, won't build authority, won't grow your audience.

How to build a simple, repeatable posting process

Scattered, random, inconsistent content won't work.

You need a structured, repeatable cadence for compounding: A content engine.

Whether you build that in-house or bring in a partner like Triangle, your CEO's input is only one part of it. The other inputs: what's happening in the industry, what's happening in the wider business, what's performing well on LinkedIn right now, what your ICP is engaging with.

One focused hour with your CEO, run properly, becomes two to four weeks of custom, original insight-led content - pulling from their ideas and in their tone.

Three types of content run alongside each other:

  • Structured ideation: The evergreen backbone, batched in advance (see below visual.)
  • Reactive news: Find the most relevant industry moments each week, with an angle already attached. Weave your CEO's opinion into the story.
  • Internal updates: A new hire, a launch, a press mention - turn these into LinkedIn content pieces to share what's actually happening in the business.

What content to post

It's tempting to default to internal updates when you sit down with your CEO, but people won’t engage with that. They care about their own challenges, problems, a story that motivates them, insight that educates them, something that makes them look good in front of their own boss.

Your content has to be built for your audience, not just talking about your product.

Think about the content in terms of buckets:

  • Authority content shares insight, shows your CEO is a leader in their field. Industry topics, their own IP and frameworks, actual opinions on where things are heading.
  • Trust content builds an emotional connection. Values and beliefs, long-term vision, why they founded the business, the culture they've built.
  • Credibility content brings the business to life. Product updates told through the story of why a change was made. Hiring framed around what they were actually looking for. Case studies, results, the occasional call to action.

Some examples of CEO content (we've used with 70+ B2B leaders to drive 100M+ impressions & $10M+ in directly attributable pipeline this year):

1) Get people's attention

  • Big industry trends
  • Contrarian beliefs
  • Strong opinions on why your way is best
  • Predictions on where your market's heading
  • The "best practice" everyone follows that is wrong
  • Sharing conversations you’re having behind closed doors

2) Drive trust & buy-in

  • Share your vision
  • Your company transformation & growth journey
  • Your beliefs as a leader
  • The bets you're making and why
  • Lessons from the decisions you got wrong
  • Behind-the-scenes of how your business operates
  • The people behind the business

3) Move your audience to buyers

  • Proof points & client results
  • Overcoming your most common objections
  • Changing the way your ICP thinks about their problem
  • The cost of the status quo
  • Before-and-afters that let the outcome do the selling
  • Myth-busting the assumptions keeping them stuck

Most founders only ever post #3 – then wonder why their content drives no engagement. Earn attention and trust first, and the buyers follow.

How to measure whether it's working

Most CEOs fixate on impressions and follower count.

What actually matters is who's engaging. Profile visits, DMs, connection requests, whether the right ICP is showing up.

Also, know your goal first: Top-line impressions and engagement, conversion to a landing page, reaching a specific list of target companies, generating inbound demand?

Different content does different jobs:

  • A topical, opinion-led authority post travels further, generates more impressions.
  • A post built around a specific product use case generates fewer impressions but far more ICP engagement, and moves the right people closer to buying.

Neither is more valuable; they're doing different roles in the wider content ecosystem.

Make sure building true influence, authority & trust are at the core of your strategy. I spoke about this on an interview with LinkedIn's own VP of Measurement, Jae Oh. Because there can be a trade-off:

  1. Chase impressions and your content gets more mass appeal because it’s more surface-level.
  2. Hold onto nuance and depth, and you may lose some reach, but you get positioned as the true expert.

Build the right strategy and stay consistent and a CEO who barely posts today becomes the reason enterprise buyers, candidates and journalists all end up in the same place: your inbox.
